WWI Memorial Plaque Framed
This authentic replica of the Memorial Penny, originally issued by the British Government to relatives of the fallen during the Great War to recognise the contribution of those who made the ultimate sacrifice during WWI, is beautifully framed ready to display.
The plaques were made of bronze, and hence popularly known as the "Dead Mans Penny", because of the similarity in appearance to the somewhat smaller penny coin. The plaque shows Britannia bestowing a laurel crown onto a rectangular tablet which would have the full name of the dead. A Lion stands infront, and dolphins are shown to either side of Britannia's upper body, and around the edge is the inscription 'He Died for Freedom and Honour'. The back of the plaque is plain. On the original plaques, the name would be in raised lettering. On our replica plaques the name will be engraved with silver infil.
The replica memorial plaque will be engraved with the name you provide in full and beauifully presented in a mahogany and gilt frame with a layered cream mount. The mount can include a personalised inscription which will be positioned below the memorial plaque in the frame. Please type this in below if you would like an inscription.
