Victory Miniature Medal

The Victory Medal (also known as The Allied Victory Medal or nicknamed 'Wilfred') was a campaign medal issued to all those who received the 1914 Star or the 1914-15 Star, and to most of those who were awarded the British War Medal, 5,334,522 Victory medals were awarded alongside one of the other WWI medals, it was never awarded singly. 

The medal is gold in colour, with the obverse showing the winged figure of Victory holding a palm branch in her right hand with her left extended. The reverse has the inscription ‘THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914-19’ surrounded with a laurel wreath. The ribbon itself is wider than the other WW1 ribbons at 36mm and is a double rainbow design, with red in the centre and indigo at each edge. 

To qualify for the Victory medal the recipient had to be mobilised in any service and have entered a theatre of war between the 5th August 1914 and the 11th November 1918. This was extended to include members of the British Naval mission to Russia and mine clearance in the North Sea from 1919 to 1920. Service in nursing homes and other auxiliary forces also counted towards qualifying for this and the earlier 2 medals. Recipients of a Mention in Despatches (MiD) during the war were authorised to wear a spray of oak leaves on the Victory medal ribbon.

AWARD miniature medals complement the full-size official medals and are normally worn for formal dinner dress occasions.

All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
