UN Ivory Coast (ONUCI) Full Size Medal

The ONUCI mission was established in February 2004 as it was determined that the situation in Côte d’Ivoire continued to pose a threat to international peace and security in the region. The mandate for ONUCI was to monitor the cease-fire and movements of armed groups; support disarmament, demobilization, reintegration, repatriation and resettlement; protect UN Personnel, institutions, and civilians; support humanitarian assistance and the implementation of the peace process; provide assistance in the field of human rights; restore a civilian policing presence in the country; and re-establish the authority of the judiciary and the rule of law throughout Cote d’Ivoire. The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire successfully completed its mandate on 30 June 2017.

Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The ONUCI ribbon is UN blue with three thin stripes of orange, white and green grouped together in the center, representing the flag of the Ivory Coast. The orange represents the savanna grasslands of the north, the white represents peace and unity and the green the lush coastal forests and the hope for a bright future.

Qualifying time for the medal is 90 days of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.

United Nations medals are not engraved.

All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
