UN Special Service Medal (UNSSM) Miniature Medal

This medal was established in June 1995 to recognize those military personnel and civilian police serving the United Nations in capacities other than established peace-keeping missions and United Nations Headquarters. 

Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The UNSSM ribbon consists of a large stripe of UN blue framed between two white stripes.

As this medal is awarded for service in various countries a bar can be added with the name of the country or the United Nations mission (UNHCR, UNSCOM, etc) for which the medal was awarded.

Qualifying time for the medal is 90 days of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.

All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
