UN South Sudan (UMISS) Miniature Medal

On 9 July 2011, South Sudan became the newest country in the world. The birth of the Republic of South Sudan was the culmination of a six-year peace process which ended more than 20 years of war. The mandate for UNMISS is to support long term statebuilding and economic developent, support the Government of the Republic of South Sudan in conflict prevention, mitigation and resolution to protect civilians as well as developing its capacity to provide security, to establish the rule of law and to strengthen the security and justice sectors. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) is still present in the country since its independence in 2011.

Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The UNMISS mission ribbon has stripes of UN blue on the edges followed by two white and one green stripe. Four black lines separate each of the stripes on the medal ribbon.

Qualifying time for the medal is 90 days of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.

All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
