UN Mozambique (ONUMOZ) Miniature Medal

The UN Mozambique ONUMOZ Mission was established on the 13 October 1992 to help facilitate the implementation of the general peace agreement for Mozambique. The mandate included the need to monitor and verify the cease-fire, the complete withdrawal of foreign forces; to authorize security arrangements for vital infrastructures; and to provide security for the United Nations and other international activities in support of the peace process. Upon completion of the task, the Mission was terminated in January 1995.

Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The ONUMOZ mission ribbon consists of a central wide band of UN blue flanked by two bands of white, representing Peace, and two bands in green on the sides, representing the tropical climate of Mozambique. 

Qualifying time for the medal is 90 days of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.

All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
