UN Ivory Coast (UNMINUCI) Miniature Medal
The UNMINUCI mission was created in May 2003 as a political mission to facilitate the implementation by the Ivorian parties of an agreement signed by them (the Linas-Marcoussis Agreement) and to complement the operations of the peacekeeping force of the Economic Community of West African States and French troops. On 4 April 2004, UNMINUCI was replaced by a UN peacekeeping operation - the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (ONUCI).
Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The UNMINUCI ribbon consists of five equal bands, the two bands on the edge are UN blue. The 3 central bands are orange, white and green, representing the flag of the Ivory Coast. The orange represents the savanna grasslands of the north, the white represents peace and unity and the green the lush coastal forests and the hope for a bright future.
Qualifying time for the medal is 90 days of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.
All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
