UN Iraq/Kuwait (UNIKOM) Miniature Medal
UNIKOM was established in April 1991, to monitor a demilitarized zone established along the boundary between the States of Iraq and Kuwait and the Khor Abdullah. This mission came to an end in March 2003.
Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The UNIKOM ribbon contains a narrow central stripe of UN blue, surrounded by two broad bands of sand or desert colour representing Iraq and Kuwait.
Qualifying time for the medal is 90 days of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.
All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
