UN Haiti (UNMIH) Full Size Medal

The UNMIH (United Nations Mission in Haiti) was originally established on the 23 September 1993. Its mandate was to assist in modernizing the armed forces of Haiti and establishing a new police force. UNMIH was not able implement the mandate at that time due to the noncooperation of the Haitian military authorities. The original mission terminated on 31 July 1997.

Several new missions - UNSMIH, MIPONUH and MICAH - were established and terminated in Haiti and represented with this medal and ribbon. The MICAH mission mandate ended in 2017.

Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The UNMIH ribbon for the medal consists of the royal blue and red of the Republic of Haiti, bordered by the UN blue with two white lines denoting friendship between the two. For some later missions a bar can be added to the medal to indicate the specific mission (e.g. UNSMIH)

Qualifying time for the medal is 90 days of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.

United Nations medals are not engraved.

All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
