UN Guatemala (MINUGU) Miniature Medal
In September 1994, the General Assembly decided to establish a Human Rights Verification in Guatemala acting on a recommendation by the Secretary-General that such a mission could make a contribution to a persisting pattern of human rights abuse. The mission terminated in May 1997.
Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The MINUGU ribbon has a central band of UN blue, which is flanked on either side with the colours of the Guatemala flag. The flag is represented by a stripe of white with a green line through it, bordered on either side by a bands of blue representing the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
Qualifying time for the medal is 90 days of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.
All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
