UN Georgia (UNOMIG) Full Size Medal

UNOMIG was established on 24 August 1993 to verify compliance of the Cease-Fire Agreement between the Republic of Georgia and forces in Abkhazia with special attention to the situation in the city of Sukhumi. The mission came to an end in June 2009.

Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The UNOMIG ribbon has seven equal bars of colour, with a central core of UN blue, followed by white on both sides representing the snow-covered mountain tops of the Caucasus. Next is green representing the coastal plains and foothills, and dark blue on both edges representing the Black Sea.

Qualifying time for the medal is 180 days of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.

United Nations medals are not engraved.

All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
