UN Eritrea & Ethiopia (UNMEE) Full Size Medal
The Mission was established on the 15 September 2000; the main goals of the Mission were to monitor the cessation of hostilities, to assist in ensuring the observance of the security commitments agreed by the parties, to monitor and verify the redeployment of Ethiopian forces from positions taken, to monitor the positions of Ethiopian forces once redeployed and the positions of Eritrean forces. The mission came to an end in 2008.
Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The UNMEE ribbon has two outer bands of UN blue, symbolizing the presence of the United Nations. The inner narrow stripe in green symbolizes hope and fertility of the land. The two stipes in tan symbolize religious freedom and the ruggedness of the country.
Qualifying time for the medal is 90 days of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.
United Nations medals are not engraved.
All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
