UN Cyprus (UNFICYP) Full Size Medal
The UNFICYP mission was established in March 1964 to try and prevent the recurrence of fighting between the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. Since the hostilities of 1974, the mission has included supervising the cease-fire and maintaining a buffer zone between the lines of the Cyprus National Guard and of the Turkish and Turkish Cypriot forces. The Mission continues to the present date.
Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The UNFICYP mission ribbon has three equal bars, one of white in the centre and two of UN blue at either side. The bars are separated by two narrow bands of dark blue symbolizing the Mediterranean Sea.
Qualifying time for the medal is three months of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.
United Nations medals are not engraved.
All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
