UN Barundi (UNONUB) Miniature Medal
In May 2004 the Security Council determined that the situation in Burundi continued to constitute a threat to international peace and security and decided to establish the United Nations Operation in Burundi (UNONUB). Its goals were to support the efforts undertaken by Burundians to restore lasting peace and bring about national reconciliation, as provided under the Arusha Agreement. UNONUB successfully completed its mandate on 31 December 2006. It was succeeded by the United Nations Integrated Office in Burundi (BINUB), established by Security Council in October 2006.
Each United Nations medal is identical in design, with a unique ribbon to identify the specific mission. The UNONUB ribbon has UN blue stripes on the edge, followed by even stripes of white then red and a central strip of green.
The usual qualifying time for a UN medal is 90 days of service in the Mission. Subsequent tours of the same regions would be denoted with a numeral attached to the ribbon.
All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
