The obverse of the medal is frosted and polished with a multi-faceted design, to reflect the sapphire cut gem stone with dates 1952-2017 encircling the design. The English Rose, Scottish Thistle, Irish Clover and Welsh Leek, represent the plants of the United Kingdom at the highest and most central point of the medal.
On the reverse, a regal crown sits proudly at the top of the medal with the wording ‘ELIZABETH II SAPPHIRE JUBILEE’ and ‘1952 65 2017’, encircling the bottom, perfect for naming with the service details of the recipient underneath the crown.
The medal ribbon has a central stripe in sapphire blue with light blue and silver white stripes highlighting the reflective facets of the gem and medal. The medal is supplied on a concealed pin, ready to wear.
