Territorial Force Miniature War Medal
The Territorial Force War Medal was a campaign medal awarded to members of the British Territorial Force and Territorial Force Nursing Services who served overseas in World War I; it is the rarest of the five British Great War medals with around 34,000 awarded. The medal was established in April 1920 for award to members who volunteered for service overseas on or before 30 September 1914, and served overseas.
The medal is gold in colour with the obverse of the medal showing an uncrowned profile of King George V by Sir Bertram Mackennal. The reverse has 'Territorial War Medal' around the top of the medal. Below this is a wreath enclosing the text 'For Voluntary Service Overseas 1914-19'. The ribbon is yellow with 2 dark green stripes to either side of the ribbon and is a standard width of 16mm.
To qualify for this medal personnel must have volunteered for service overseas with the Territorial Force on or before 30th September 1914. Those who had already qualified for the 1914, or 1914-15 star were excluded from recieving this medal.
AWARD miniature medals complement the full-size official medals and are normally worn for formal dinner dress occasions.
All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
