Set Of 3 "Pip Squeak & Wilfred" Mounted Miniature Medals

Pip, Squeak and Wilfred - the nicknames of the four medals instituted at the end of the First World War, came about due to the popularity of the characters of a Daily Mirror newspaper strip, thought up by Bertram J Lamb, which first appeared in 1919. “Pip” a dog, “Squeak” a penguin and “Wilfred” a rabbit were inseparable. “Pip” was used to describe the 1914 and 1914-1915 Star, holders of one were not eligible for the other, “Squeak” was the name given to the British War Medal and to complete the trio the Victory Medal became “Wilfred”.

This trio of medals, including either the 1914 star or the 1914-15 star we often awarded together to veterans of the Great war. When worn together the medals have a set order of the star first (either the 1914 or 1914-15 star, recipients of one star would not be eligible for the other), the British War medal followed by the Victory medal, sometimes referred to as the Allied Victory Medal.

These medals will be mounted together in the correct order and length following MoD standards. Please select in the drop down options if you would prefer swing or court mounting, an extra charge of £9 will be required for court mounting. Swing mounting is when the medal is able to swing on the ribbon, with only the top of the ribbon attached to the brooch bar. Court mounting is when the medals will have a rigid backing holding them firmly in place.
