1977 Queens Silver Jubilee Full Size Medal
The 1977 Silver Jubilee medal was made to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the reign of Elizabeth II. By Royal Warrant fom her majesty 30,000 were created and distributed in Britain, as well as 1,507 in New Zealand, 6,870 in Australia, and 30,000 in Canada. In the UK the award of the medals was at the discretion of the local government authority. The main recipients were members of the Armed Forces, Crown Services and people involved in certain areas of industry, arts, sport, trade and voluntary workers.
The obverse of the medal shows the profile of Elizabeth II wearing St Edwards crown, and the reverse has a crown and wreath enclosing the words' The 25th Year of the Reign of Queen Elizabeth II 6 February 1977'. The ribbon is white with a central stipe of blue with a red line through it, and thin red lines on the edges.
To be eligible to wear this medal you must have been awarded the medal. Those serving in 1977 and in service 5 years prior may have been issued a medal. However, only 30,000 were actually issued at the time. The set can be purchased for collection purposes only if you are not eligible, but should not be worn.
This is a superb replica full-size medal, die-struck to the same exacting standards as the original and is produced from the original dies which have the word copy discreetly added on the reverse in line with MoD licensing. The full-size medal is supplied with 6 inches of loose ribbon. The Silver Jubilee medals were not engraved when awarded and medal edge engraving is not available with this medal.
All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
