Pacific Star Full Size Medal
The Pacific Star was a campaign medal of the British Commonwealth, awarded for service in World War 2 in the Pacific theatre of war between 8th December 1941 and 2nd September 1945.
The medal itself is a 6 pointed star with the Crowned Royal Cipher "GRI VI" in the centre, with an inscription of "THE PACIFIC STAR" around the cipher. The reverse of the medal is blank as with all World War II stars. The ribbon is a standard width of 32mm or 1.25" wide and the ribbon has a wide central band of green with a narrow stripe of sand of buff colour in the middle, representing the jungle and the beaches of the regions. There is red on both edges representing the army, the red is seperated from the green with a narrow band of dark blue on the left, representing the Navy, and a narrow band of light blue on the right, representing the RAF.
There is 1 bar that can be awarded and worn on the Pacific WWII Star, the 'Burma' bar. The bar represent the WWII Burma Star and would have been awarded instead of the medal, holders of the Pacific Star would never be awarded the Burma Star, as the Burma bar would be awarded instead and sewn to the ribbon of the Pacific Star.
To qualify for the medal, individuals must have completed 1 or more days operational service in the Pacific Theatre of War between 8th December 1941 and the 2nd September 1945. Service in China, Hong Kong, Malaya and Sumatra can also count but only within the specific dates of certain campaigns in those regions. RAF and Royal Navy personnel on active operations within specific boundaries of the Pacific Ocean area would also qualify.
Our museum quality replica full-size medals are made to the same exacting standards as the original and in line with MoD licensing. All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
WWII medals were not engraved when originally issued, so replacements therefore are not suitable for engraving.
