Order Of St John Service Miniature Medal

Awarded for long and continuous service with the St John ambulance service. The qualification period can vary by region, but is currently 12 years in the UK.

Additional periods of 5 years are marked by a 2nd award bar being added to the ribbon. Up to 3 bars can be worn, and on achieving a 4th award the silver bars are removed and replaced with a gilt/ gold bar. When wearing a ribbon bar the 2nd award bars are represented by the same number of silver rosettes, or a gold rosette.

The design on the medal has remained consistent throughout its history and its one of the only medals currently issued with the effigy of Queen Victoria.
