Italy Star Miniature Medal
The Italy WWII Star was awarded for operational service in Italy and its surrounding areas at any time between 11th June 1943 and 8th May 1945.
The miniature medal itself is a 6 pointed star with the Crowned Royal Cipher "GRI VI" in the centre, with an inscription of "THE ITALY STAR" around the cipher. The reverse of the medal is blank as with all World War II stars. The miniature ribbon is a standard width of 16mm and the ribbon design in 5 equal stripes, red on both edges, white and green in the centre, representing the Italian National colours. No miniature bars were awarded to be worn on the ribbon.
To qualify for the medal individuals must have completed 1 or more days service in Italy, Greece, Yugoslavia, the Aegean area, the Dodecanese Islands, and Elba between the 11th June 1943 and 8th May 1945. Service in Sardinia, Corsica and Sicily can also count but only within the specific dates of certain campaigns in those regions. RAF and Royal Navy personnel on active operations within the Mediterranean area would also qualify.
AWARD miniature medals complement the full-size official medals and are normally worn for formal dinner dress occasions.
All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
