Hors de Combat - to put out of the fight; out of action. Expression used on service record of person out of action due to wounds or injury. The outstanding bravery of British servicemen and women who have sustained wounds or injury in the line of duty is now recognised with the striking of the 'Hors de Combat' commemorative medal, which can have this poppy emblem added to the ribbon to distinguish medals issued posthumously. It has a plated finish to avoid tarnishing or soiling of the ribbon.
