Gulf Full Size Medal With 2 August 1990 Clasp
The Gulf War Medal was a campaign medal approved in 1992, for personnel of all ranks in the British forces who served in various area's of the Middle East including Kuwait and Saudi Arabia during Operation Granby (the Liberation of Kuwait) between 1990 and 1991.
The officially awarded 2nd August 1990 clasp signifies service with the Kuwait Liasion team.
The obverse of the Gulf medal has the crowned profile of Queen Elizabeth II and the reverse has an anchor with an eagle over the top of the anchor and an automatic rifle below the eagle on top of the anchor; symbolising the 3 services. 'THE GULF MEDAL' is written at the top and '1990 -91', the dates of the gulf war appear at the bottom. The silver clasp is connected to the medal with a metal pin, and bears the date '2 AUGUST 1990'. The ribbon is a standard width of 32mm and has a broad central band of sand or buff colour representing the desert. This central band is flanked by narrow stripes of light blue, red and navy representing the 3 services.
Qualifying time for the medal is 30 days continuous service in the Middle East (including Cyprus) between 2nd August 1990 - 7th March 1991. To qualify for the '2 AUGUST 1990' clasp personnel must have been part of Kuwait Liaison Team and in Kuwait on 2nd August 1990.
