France & Germany Star Miniature Medal

The France & Germany WWII Star was awarded for operational service in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Germany from 6th June 1944 (D-Day) to 8th May 1945.

The miniature medal itself is a 6 pointed star with the Crowned Royal Cipher "GRI VI" in the centre, with an inscription of "THE FRANCE AND GERMANY STAR" around the cipher. The reverse of the medal is blank as with all World War II stars. The miniature ribbon is a standard width of 16mm and the ribbon design is 5 equal stripes, dark blue on both edges, white and red in the centre. These are the national colours of the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands. 

There is 1 miniature bar that can be awarded and worn on the France and Germany Star, the 'Atlantic' bar. The bar represent the WWII Atlantic Star and would have been awarded instead of the medal, meaning that the France & Germany Star would never be worn alongside the Atlantic Star, as the Atlantic bar would be worn on the ribbon of the France & Germany Star instead.

To qualify for the medal, individuals must have completed 1 or more days operational service in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands or Germany from 6th June 1944 to the 8th May 1945. The qualifying sea area is the North Sea south of a line from the Firth of Forth to Kristiansand, in the English Channel and in the Bay of Biscay east of longitude 6° west, provided such service was directly in support of land operations.

AWARD miniature medals complement the full-size official medals and are normally worn for formal dinner dress occasions.

All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
