ESDP Operation Artemis Full Size Medal
Instituted in 2004, the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) Service Medal is awarded to military and civilian personnel involved in military operations or missions endorsed by the European Union. Operation Artemis is the name of a mission that took place in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from June to September 2003.
The obverse of this medal has 12 five pointed stars in a circle around the edge. The reverse simply says 'PRO PACE UNUM' in the center, which translates to 'United for Peace'. A clasp with the word 'ARTEMIS' is worn on the ribbon. The ribbon has a width of 35mm and is blue with a central band of yellow.
ESDP Medals cannot be engraved and were not engraved when awarded. The medal is awarded to police and security personnel serving in any military operation under the direction of the European Union.
