Egypt 1882-89 Miniature Medal

Instituted 17th October 1882 for award to those who served in Egypt 16th July to 14th September 1882. The medal was awarded for further campaigns such as Sudan 1884 and the Nile Expedition of 1884, and for campaigns in and around Egypt up to 1889.

The obverse of the medal shows the profile of Queen Victoria in a diadem and veil, with the legend 'VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX'. The reverse depicts a sphinx on a platform, with the word 'EGYPT' above. Earlier medals would have the date '1882' below, but this was removed on medals issued later. The ribbon is made up of 5 stripes, blue on the edges and in the centre, with 2 white stripes in between.

All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
