OBVERSE
The obverse of the commemorative medal depicts a standing lion with a Chinese style ceremonial dragon bowing before it. In the background there are palm trees and the whole scene is placed before a pyramid. The exergue has the wording 'Eastern Service'.
REVERSE
The reverse of the medal shows the Eastern hemisphere of the globe surrounded by the wording 'For Eastern and Asiatic Service'. The medal is suspended from a ribbon depicting the colours associated with the East, namely Blue for the Rains, Green for the Jungle, Red for the Sun and Sand for the Desert.
