Crimea Medal Full Size Medal
The Crimea campaign medal was issued to British and French forces who took part in the Crimean War of 1854-56 against the Russians on the Crimean peninsular and surrounding waters.
The obverse of this medal has the profile of Queen Victoria and the reverse shows a Roman Soldier being crowned by the flying figure of Victory. The word CRIMEA is written vertically to the left side. The ribbon is pale blue with yellow edges, and has a narrow width of 29mm.
This medal can be awarded with clasps to indicate the specific battle the individual took part in, 5 clasps were created - Alma, Balaklava, Inkerman, Sebastopol and Azoff. The maximum number of clasps awarded to 1 medal was 4. The clasps are silver in colour and are very ornate, shaped like oak leaves with the name of battle at an angle down the centre of the leaf and acorns to either side. The clasp needs to be attached to the medal with a metal pin.
