The striking of two 50mm medals has been approved to commemorate the institution of The George Cross and George Medal by HM the Queen's father, King George VI in 1940. On 24th September 2015, HRH The Duke of Kent presented medals at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, to the living recipients of the George Cross and George Medal; it will also be available to living recipients unable to attend the event and their next of kin.
To honour this anniversary and as a tribute to the medal holders, Worcestershire Medals, medallists to HM The Queen, have struck replicas of the medals as an exclusive and strictly limited edition for the general public. The obverse of the medals features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and King George VI facing each other and the reverse features their ciphers and images of the two original gallantry medals. These medals have been minted in metal layered with pure silver which has been limited to 2015 sets and in hallmarked sterling silver; limited to 1940 sets.
These highly collectable medals are individually numbered and include a certificate of authenticity and are presented within a beautiful handmade case.The medals are for presentation only as a keepsake to treasure and cannot be worn or mounted.Dimensions: 36mm diameter.
Profits from the sale of these sets will be distributed by the manufacturer to The Victoria Cross & George Cross Association and The Gallantry Medallists League.
