Burma Star Full Size Medal
The Burma WWII Star was awarded for service in the Burma Campaign between 11 Dec 1941 and 2 Sep 1945.
The medal itself is a 6 pointed star with the Crowned Royal Cipher "GRI VI" in the centre, with an inscription of "THE BURMA STAR" around the cipher. The reverse of the medal is blank as with all World War II stars. The ribbon is a standard width of 32mm or 1.25" wide and the ribbon has a wide central band of red, representing commonwealth forces. On each edge there is a wide band of dark blue representing British forces, with a stripe of orange central within the blue on each side, representing the sun.
There is 1 bar that can be awarded and worn on the Burma WWII Star, the 'Pacific' bar. The bar represent the WWII Pacific Star and would have been awarded instead of the medal, holders of the Burma Star would never be awarded the Pacific Star, as the Pacific bar would be awarded instead and sewn to the ribbon of the Burma Star.
To qualify for the medal, individuals must have completed 1 or more days operational service in the Burma campaign between 11th December 1941 and the 2nd September 1945. Service in China, Hong Kong, Malaya and Sumatra can also count but only within the specific dates of certain campaigns in those regions. RAF and Royal Navy personnel on active operations within specific boundaries of the Bay of Bengal area would also qualify.
Our museum quality replica full-size medals are made to the same exacting standards as the original and in line with MoD licensing. All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
WWII medals were not engraved when originally issued, so replacements therefore are not suitable for engraving.
