British Korea Full Size Medal
The British Korea medal was instituted in 1951 and often referred to as the Queen's Korea medal, the medal was awarded to British and Commonwealth forces for service during the Korean campaign between 1 July 1950 and 27 July 1953.
The obverse of the Korean War medal shows the right facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a wreath on her hair. The reverse shows Hercules wrestling with Hydra (a gigantic snake like monster with many heads from Greek mythology), with the word KOREA below. The ribbon has 5 equal stripes, 3 yellow and 2 blue stripes in the middle. The ribbon is a standard width of 32mm.
Qualifying time for the medal was 28 days afloat for the Navy or RAF, 1 days service in Korea for the Army or RAF, and personnel in the RAF could also qualify with 1 sortie over Korea or Korean Waters.
This medal was often awarded alongside the UN Korea Medal, which you can also purchase under UN medals.
Our museum quality replica full-size medals are made to the same exacting standards as the original, with the word COPY added to the back of the medal and in line with MoD licensing (COPY is added to the bottom left of the medal, by the tail and knealed upon head of the Hydra). The full-size medal can be engraved on the back with your service details and is supplied with 6 inches of loose ribbon.
