1914 Star With Clasp Miniature Medal
The 1914 Star Replica Campaign medal with MONS bar for service in World War I. The medal was approved in 1917, for issue to officers and men of British forces who served in France or Belgium between 5 August & 22 November 1914. Approximately 380,000 1914 Stars were issued. This medal was never awarded singly and was always accompanied by the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
In 1919, King George V authorised the issue of a clasp "5TH AUG - 22ND NOV 1914" for any soldier who came under enemy fire or within range of enemy mobile artillery in France or Belgium between the 5th August and 22nd November 1914. This clasp was to distinguish between front line soldiers and those who worked in the rearward areas. The clasp is sewn directly onto the ribbon.
The medal itself is a bronze crowned four pointed star with crossed swords and a wreath of oak leaves. There is a small royal cypher of King George V on the bottom of the wreath, and the scrolls in the centre of the medal have the words AUG, 1914, NOV. The ribbon is striped red, white and blue with the colours blending into each other.
AWARD miniature medals complement the full-size official medals and are normally worn for formal dinner dress occasions.
All official medals are sent loose on the ribbon unless medal mounting is also purchased on the same order.
