This year the National Memorial Arboretum hosts the fifteenth annual National Service Memorial & Reunion.
It is a wonderful way for ex-service men and women from all branches of the Armed Forces to come together and reminisce on their service; the Service of Remembrance offering a poignant moment to pause and reflect.
This special reunion and service is the perfect moment to wear your National Service Medal with pride. I do hope you will be able to join us: National Service Day is open to all, so please come along to this wonderful occasion. I look forward to welcoming you.
Gerald J. Rose
The National Service Foundation
National Service Day, held annually at the National Memorial Arboretum, is one of the key occasions in our calendar we look forward to each year.
It is always a pleasure to work with Gerald Rose, Chairman of the National Service Foundation. It is through Gerald’s tireless campaigning that each last Sunday in June is the official day of remembrance and reminiscence for all conscripts of National Service: National Service Day!
Ex-servicemen and women from all branches of the Armed Forces come together with fellow comrades to remember and reflect from 10am before the half hour long service of remembrance at 2pm. The service is always wonderful and includes readings, an exhortation recital, an address and the singing of traditional hymns all overseen by invited dignitaries and guest of honour.
A proud and personal moment for Award is when the service concludes with a march past by veterans, displaying their pride in having served Crown and Country, with many wearing the National Service Medal. The memorial and reunion is open to all, even with no connection to National Service, so please come along and enjoy this wonderful occasion.
If you served Crown and Country, mark this special occasion by wearing, with pride, your National Service Medal.

On the day………………
Seating for the service is very limited and I’m afraid we are unable to provide you with allocated seating immediately in front of the service. Many of our visitors do bring their own deckchairs, blankets and picnics – please feel free to do the same. These have proved to be a godsend in previous years as the service, parade and activities can last a fair while.
Award staff will be on hand to assist you on the day and will be based in or around the white marquees within the grounds of the arboretum. Please find a map and directions enclosed.
On-site pay and display parking is provided. Should the car park become full, overflow parking will be provided. This can sometimes require use of a park and ride service.
There is a fully stocked restaurant serving hot and cold food and beverages as well as a fully stocked bar. Please feel free to bring your own on the day.
The Arboretum is accessible by all however please bear in mind that it is a very big site. Sensible footwear and plenty of water on hot days is highly recommended. The majority of the monuments are out in the open, sun hats and sun cream are, again, highly recommended. If rain is forecast you may wish to bring an umbrella, which will double as a sunshade.
The Service & Parade begins at 14:00hrs. Following the service, veterans will be invited to join the March Past. We encourage all veterans to join the March Past; if you wish to join in, don’t forget medals, beret & cap badge – you will be permitted to join without but we wouldn’t want you to feel underdressed.
